Social Media and Facebook for Kids: Parental Advice

By Mason Duchatschek

Social Media Marketing Consultant – St. Louis, MO

Most of my blog posts are primarily focused on social media marketing, video marketing, email marketing, text marketing and mobile marketing.  Lately, I’ve received a ton of inquiries from a bunch of parents asking my opinion about children and their use of Facebook.

Recently I was visiting with Dafna Michaelson, who is a professor who teaches social media marketing classes at the University of Denver.  Here are the guidelines she has in place for her kids.

She insists that her kids “friend” her.  She also insists that they don’t block her from access to any content they post. And finally, she insists that her kids forward all incoming emails to her so she can review them if she wants to.

If you’re a parent and aren’t sure what sort of rules and parameters you need in place before your kids use Facebook, then I hope her advice will serve you well.
