Social Media Marketing Strategies: Building Your Fan Club

When I was in elementary school, I had a buddy named Doug and he joined the Kiss Army.  If you’re not a rock and roll fan who grew up in the 70’s or 80’s you might not know that the Kiss Army was the fan club for the band Kiss.

If my memory is correct, then I seem to recall that Doug filled out a simple form and sent it in along with $5 or so to register in the fan club.  Then he waited another 4-6 weeks for his fan club packet to come in.  When he finally got it, he was just as excited to show it to all of his friends as we were to see it.

Today,  you don’t have to be a rock and roll musician to have a fan club.  And, your fans don’t have to wait 4-6 weeks to get something they value from you.  Just as rock stars share their songs, videos, pictures, blogs and articles, you can do the same except that you get to share YOUR ideas, insights and experiences with people who are interested in them.  If you do it well and if you share often, then you can attract a fan base of individuals who appreciate you and your talent.   Your fan club can easily engage with you if you’re just simply willing to invite them to follow you on your social media accounts.

You don’t need a publicist.  However, you should have an active social media presence in places like YouTube, Twitter and Facebook though. If you just take a little time to give your opinions, observations and knowledge, then your fans will be more inclined to give you more of their time.
